Providence Torah:Parashas Ki Sisa

We had a wonderful Purim in Yeshiva this year! From the Providence
Purim Parade to the yeshiva seudah (meal), it was a meaningful - and
fun! - day for all.
I would like to share with you an idea that Rabbi Gibber shared at the
Purim seudah. Rabban Gamliel was one of the prominent figures of the
tannaitic period (70-200 CE). He strengthened many of the
institutions of the Jewish people. There was a famous episode
regarding the acceptance policy into the rabbinical academies of the
day. His general position was that the talmid had to be tocho k’baro,
the inside like the outside. What does this mean?
Rabbi Gibber explained that he was demanding consistency. However the
person behaved inside the beis hamedrash, the study hall, was how he
had to behave outside as well. He felt this was crucial to
maintaining the proper level of observance and tradition.
We too must look at ourselves and make sure our behavior is constant
and appropriate in all areas.
Have a wonderful Shabbos!
